Quality of Life
Healthcare needs in Union County are served by the Carolinas HealthCare System, the largest healthcare system in the Carolinas and third largest in the nation, and Novant Health.
For more than 50 years, Carolinas Medical Center–Union (CMC-Union), the flagship of the Carolinas HealthCare System in Union County, has been committed to a single purpose - improving the health of individuals, families and communities throughout Union County and the surrounding area. CMC-Union includes an acute care hospital, long-term care facility, behavioral health center, home health services, a women’s center currently under development, and several community-based physician practices.
CMC-Union is changing the face of healthcare in our region through its pursuit of excellence each and every day, and vision to provide an appropriate continuum of quality health care services for patients. Investing over $ 175 million since 1995, CMC-Union has expanded services and programs, creating a new comprehensive cancer treatment center, facilities for outpatient diagnostic services, expanded areas for surgical services, new nursing home, and new medical office building. CMC-Union is currently looking to round out its services with the addition of a new maternity ward.
Regardless of your age or medical problem, chances are CMC-Union has the specialists to help you. The hospital's medical staff, which includes more than 300 physicians, serves a wide range of specialties, including: cardiology, neurology, obstetrics, and more. As of May 2013, CMC-Union critical care patients receive 24 hour remote surveillance from doctors and nurses via the Virtual Care Center.
In addtiion to CMC-Union, Union County residents are served by CMC-Waxhaw, which features a free-standing emergency department, advanced diagnostic imaging and laboratory services and primary and specialty care.
Novant Health Matthews Medical Center (formerly Presbyterian Hospital Matthews) is located just across the Mecklenburg County line and treats thousands of Union County residents each year. Nationally recognized for quality care and a commitment to excellence, the hospital offers a wide range of services including maternity, 24-hour emergency department, radiology, pediatrics, cardiovascular care and outpatient cancer treatment.
